Wood Shingle Roofing

Wood shingle installation

Wooden shingle roof systems are mainly used for residential installation such as bungalows, cottages, condos, and other structures. Though, wooden roof shingles may be found on a commercial building as well. Commonly used wooden shingle material is red cedar wood. Pros: An eco-friendly product, natural beauty, aesthetic appeal, attractive color, and increased curb appeal are what attract homeowners to using wooden shingles. Homeowners and businesses alike enjoy the charming appearance of the gingerbread style wooden shingles which have a rounded edge.

Cons: The drawbacks to using wooden shingle roof systems are costly installation, increased expense, and required regular maintenance. Made from wood, this type of shingle costs more than asphalt (fiberglass or organic) roof shingles. Though attractive, wooden shingles are flammable. With proper maintenance, Wooden shingles have a long lifespan of up to 60 years. Every few years the shingles should be resealed.
